Solano Commute Challenge 2008

39 major employers totaling 545 employees participated in the second annual countywide Solano Commute Challenge. Employer participation increased by almost 45% over last year’s 27 major employers, and employee participation soared nearly 85% over last year’s 296 employees.

The Challenge is a targeted outreach campaign for Solano County employers sponsored by the Solano Transportation Authority to encourage employees to use transit, carpool, vanpool, bike, or walk to work at least 30 times from August to October. “The high level of participation in this year’s challenge illustrates that commuters can be encouraged to get out of their single-occupancy vehicles,” said STA Board Chair and Solano County Supervisor Jim Spering. “Solano employers and their employees are to be applauded for their effort.”

300 participants earned the title “Commute Champion” and received a $50 Commute Buck reward. An additional 97 were dubbed “Commute Contenders” for attempting to meet the goal and earned $25 Commute Buck rewards.
